Component 2
Device to prevent the start of outboard engines with engaged gear
All outboard engines capable of developing a static thrust (traction on moorings),by ISO 13342, equal or higher than 500 N with any propeller type or jet propulsion system available from the manufacturer for that engine, they must be equipped with a device to prevent starting with the gripping axle when commands are set to achieve or exceed a push of 500 N.
The device is not required if the engine produces a static thrust always lower than 500 N, or if it is equipped with a device that automatically limits the thrust to less than 500 N when the outboard is started.
The harmonised reference standard to be complied with is the UNI EN ISO 11547/2001
If the outboard is not equipped with the device preventing start-up with the gear engaged, must be equipped with a control equipped with the device as a component to be certified for conformity with the harmonised standard and CE marked.
Please note: in the case of outboard with bar control, the engine shall be equipped with an emergency stop device that can be connected to the person operating the control bar.
